| It
is now possible to get 'wrought iron' cut nails to enhance a heritage project. The Glasgow Steel Nail Co Ltd has recently developed the ability to manufacture these nails from re-worked 'puddled' wrought iron. Their cut nails are made using processes and machines that have barely changed in 200 years so the nails retain the authentic look and feel of nails made from times past. The handmade look of their rosehead nails has been welcomed by the heritage market, and blacksmiths are pleased to have a source for what can be time-consuming products to make. Their ability to make the nails now in wrought iron (all clinchable—i.e. they can be bent over after passing through the wood) has provided a further benefit to the restorer searching for authenticity in their work.
